According to “Radio Svoboda”, it was said in a statement of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights and the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors. The report is based on a survey of more than 100 activists, Ukrainian authorities representatives, internally displaced persons, people who travel to Crimea from mainland Ukraine and back.

“Fundamental freedoms of assembly, expression and movement were restricted to the Crimean government. This was due to the use of restrictive laws and through selective prosecution of individuals, media or communities that are trying to present opposing views peacefully, “- said the Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Michael Georg Link.

“In Crimea, we found that Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, who openly supported the territorial integrity of Ukraine, refused Russian citizenship did not support the new Crimean government, are in a particularly vulnerable position,” – said Astrid Thors.

She added that since the annexation the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar communities experienced pressure and control over any expression of their political views and cultural values.

The report also emphasized that the situation with the freedom of the media has radically worsened. Through the introduction of new restrictions and penalties, the media impose self-censorship, while persecution began on the basis of journalistic content.

As was previously informed, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev said that Russia instigates ethnic hostilities in occupied Crimea.
