10,000 Crimean Tatars Left Crimea Due To Russian Occupation – Dzhemilev

02.08 14:14

He said this on Sunday, 2 August, at the World Congress of Crimean Tatars in Ankara, reports “Krym.Realiyi”.

“Tough discrimination and lawlessness against Crimean Tatars, especially the kidnapping and murder of young people, forced drafting of young people to the Russian army with the prospect of sending them to war with their Ukrainian brothers, the complete absence of democratic freedoms and the lack of any prospects for young people in the occupied Crimea again forces many Crimean Tatars to leave their homeland and move to mainland Ukraine”, – said Dzhemilev.

Dzhemilev said that after the so-called “Crimean Spring” 76 families came back to Crimea from the places they had been deported to, but none of them was allowed to settle in the Crimea because “the annual quota” has been exhausted, and they all had to come back. He said that in previous years up to 2,000 Crimean Tatars returned to the peninsula annually.

“There is a clear and reasonable impression that lawlessness on the Crimean Tatars happen specifically to displace them from the Crimea”, – said Dzhemilev.

According to him, currently a large number of ethnic Russians from Russia itself as well as refugees from areas of fighting in the east of Ukraine are being exported to Crimea.

Recall that Russia annexed the Ukrainian Crimea in March 2014, after what the West imposed sanctions against Russia.
